FAQ
how do i become a new rider at hands & hearts for horses?
All of our riders have documented disabilities. Prior to starting at Hands & Hearts, all potential participants must complete an HHH Participant Form (please click here to find all required forms) which includes general information, liability waiver and physician sign off, to ensure that horseback riding is not contraindicated. After all documentation is complete, potential participants go through an initial evaluation to ensure that horseback riding lessons will be an enjoyable and beneficial experience. We operate lessons year round so lesson times are subject to availability of horses, instructors, and volunteers. Give us a call today and schedule a visit.
Individuals without disabilities can participate by volunteering or by attending summer camp.
can i become a volunteer?
Yes! The first step to becoming a volunteer is attending a General Volunteer Training Orientation. To become a volunteer, please visit our “What’s Happening” page or call the barn at 229-551-0086 to check for volunteer training dates. These training sessions are held once a month at the barn and teach new volunteers the in’s and out’s of horse handling at Hands & Hearts and safety procedures that are crucial to volunteering in our program. Volunteers are required to complete a volunteer profile form annually. We do not require volunteers to have any prior horse experience - we will teach you everything you need to know!
Please note that although we do welcome volunteers as young as ten years of age, our smaller volunteers and those who have little or no horse experience will, for the safety of our horses, riders, and volunteers, start working with us in the barn before helping as a leader or sidewalker in the ring.
how can i donate to your organization? do you accept gently used items?
There are many ways to give to our organization. The fastest is by clicking the GIVE button located at the top of this page! You can also give via our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/handsandheartsforhorses) or on PayPal (paypal.me/hhhthomasville). We are always accepting new or gently used items, please check our Amazon Wish List for items that we are in need of. Items can be dropped off at the barn by calling 229-551-0086.
are you an accredited program?
Therapeutic horseback riding is classified as a recreational therapy and is not regulated in the state of Georgia. Hands and Hearts for Horses is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Premier Accredited Center, and all of our instructors are Certified Registered Instructors with the same organization, also known as PATH, Intl. This means that Hands & Hearts for Horses meets the established industry standards, these include administrative, facility, program and applicable special interest standards.
