It’s that time of year again! MAY HAY time! Did you know that horses are grazing animals, and need forage in their diets. We feed our herd hay twice a day with each meal, to supplement our pastures and make sure their nutritional needs are being met. This also prevents our pastures from becoming overgrazed! It costs us about $25,000 to get enough hay to keep our horses rolling in hay all year long! Just $12 buys 1 bale of peanut hay, or 2 bales of coastal hay. We use both for our herd, as they have different nutritional benefits! Our program relies on our herd staying healthy and fit, so your donation will directly help us provide our valuable services to our participants!
A fundamental goal at Hands & Hearts is to offer our programs to all who might benefit based on therapeutic need rather than ability to pay. Your gifts make it possible for our certified instructors and volunteers to provide therapeutic riding services to our students and to care for our wonderful therapy horses enabling:

adopt/donate a horse
Your Adopt a Horse donation supports a special member of our herd and helps pay for grain, shoes, supplements and medication. Most of them receive special diets or treatment, so they require a little extra TLC.
All program horses at Hands and Hearts are received by donation or on lease. They are evaluated on temperament, adaptability, and suitability before being accepted into the program. Each horse is received on a three-month lease to determine the suitability for the program. Hands and Hearts accepts a wide range of breeds and statures in order to efficiently meet each rider's needs. Contact Susie for more information on this process.
scholarships
Donor support helps underwrite over 70% of lesson costs but many participants also require financial assistance. Hands and Hearts is dedicated to offering our services to all those who qualify, regardless of their financial circumstances. We provide help through a scholarship program that is funded by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations
