April 2025 Volunteer Spotlight!
Penny Clark
We have had quite the hustle and bustle Spring and April with our 2025 Adaptive Rodeo and our normal lessons! Our volunteer spotlight of the month is Penny Clark!
Penny started volunteering with us in 2025! She has quickly become one of our most dependable and trustworthy volunteers! She particularly loves leading our horses but is also a wonderful side walker, who is able to help engage our riders! Ms. Penny is also always willing to help show new volunteers the ropes! She attended Ms. Jan’s advanced volunteer training on February 15th and has been helping implement the tricks and tips she was shown in the handling of our horses. She loves helping in school groups and was crucial to the success of our 2025 Adaptive Rodeo!

1. What motivated you to volunteer at Hands and Hearts for Horses?
My sister-in-law knew I was looking for an opportunity to get out and volunteer, since I had recently retired and was new to this area. She knew I have always enjoyed working with horses and recommended going to Hands and Hearts for Horses. I also understand the need for helping others through horse therapy and how beneficial it can be for the riders physically and mentally.
2. Do you have a Hands and Hearts for Horses moment you can share? (Funny, heartwarming, meaningful, memorable, favorite, etc.)
I always enjoy seeing what challenges the wonderful and patient instructors have for the riders as a part of their lessons. The games they plan for the riders to play during their class or getting them out of the riding ring for activities on the trail. The riders seem to look forward to it and it is so rewarding to see these riders relaxing and enjoying that part of their lesson.
3. Who is your favorite horse at Hands and Hearts for Horses and why?
I am still learning their unique personalities but have a special love for the gentle giants (draft horses) Neve and Bo. They are all so very special for the hard work they do each lesson.
4. What's one piece of advice you would give a new volunteer?
Give it a chance. You may volunteer because you love horses but it's much more than that. After helping the children, you'll walk away smiling.
5. How long have you been volunteering with Hands and Hearts for Horses?
I started volunteering this past January.
