“IN A COUPLE DAYS, IT’S GONNA BE MAY!”
Greetings and salutations loyal Hands and Hearts for Horses readers! I’m back with another exciting entry of our “NEIGH”borhood Horse Blog! This is my second entry as your mystery horse blogger!
Blog Reminders
Each week in my blog there will be one hidden clue to my identity, so make sure you tune in and read my blog every week for another clue! REMEMBER, if you think you know which horse I am, shoot us a message or email Stephanie at stephanie@handsandheartsforhorses.com ! Don’t spoil the mystery for our other followers by posting your guess publicly! Can you piece together the clues and figure out which horse I am? Because I’ll never tell, well not until enough of you have guessed my secret! Once enough correct guesses have come in, I’ll post a summary of the clues that should have led you to guess my identity and we will do a big reveal!
The first person to guess my identity correctly will win a Hands and Hearts for Horses sticker and a piece of pretty Hands and Hearts for Horses themed jewelry created by our very own boss lady (or as the humans call her executive director) Susie’s own mom! So, tune in for those clues and get those guesses in! One guess per person, per week please!
IN A COUPLE DAYS, IT’S GONNA BE MAY!
Guess what Hands and Hearts for Horses fans? In a couple days, it’s gonna be MAY!!! This is us horses’ FAVORITE month of the year! Do you know why? It’s because that means it is time for our annual MAY HAY FUNDRAISER!! This fundraiser is SO incredibly important to us horses!! We could not continue to do our jobs here without having a bountiful supply of hay all year long!
Did you know loyal readers, that horses are foragers? Since we are naturally grazing animals, we have to have forage in our diets to maintain our health! In fact, our digestive tract was designed to use forage as the main component of our diet! Myself, and my fellow herd mates get to eat hay twice a day, in addition to our meals, to help make sure our nutritional needs are met! Horses are supposed to eat about 2% of their body weight in hay each day! With all of the horses here at Hands and Hearts for Horses weighing in at over 1000 lbs, you can imagine that this adds up!
The humans tell me that each bale of peanut hay costs about $12 and each bale of coastal hay costs about $6. So for every $12 donation we receive, our humans can buy either one bale of peanut hay, or two of coastal! These hay types provide different nutritional benefits, and most of our horses receive a mixture of the two! We eat so much hay that it costs about a whopping $25,000 to keep us well fed with hay all year long!
This fundraiser is honestly one of the MOST important of our year! Us horses are ESSENTIAL members of the Hands and Hearts for Horses team. In fact, the humans say, without us being healthy and fit, the program would cease to exist! We horses love our jobs here, we love getting to see our participants and volunteers every day and work with them! But we need lots of hay to keep working!
So, stay tuned for May Hay fundraiser announcements, and please help us share the word about it far and wide! If you are able to donate to help us reach our goal of $25,000 that would be absolutely a-MAY-zing!!! I hear the humans are extra excited this year for the fundraiser, and are planning fun things they will do with, and without us, when they reach certain goals! When we raise $5000, $10000, $15000, $20000, and $25000 there will be one of these fun rewards for our followers! Stay tuned for more details on this!
Donations can be made on our Facebook, Instagram, or at the following link https://paypal.com/donate/?campaign_id=KAMTN52ZL2CWL&source=url ! Every dollar counts, and we horses appreciate every single donation more than we can possibly say, whether large or small! Our fundraiser is open now, and we have already received a few donations! Let’s see if we can’t reach our first goal of $5000 within the first few days of May and get this fundraiser off to a kicking and rearing start!
Thanks for tuning in for this edition of my “NEIGH”borhood horse blog followers! I’ll be back next week for more news and updates!
Til’ next week!
